The Avon boys cross country team competed in the Division II race Saturday at the Boardman Spartan Invitational, placing 23rd among 38 teams in the Division II race.

The Eagles were led by senior Jose Alvelo, who placed 23rd among 327 finishers with a time of 17 minutes, 1.3 seconds over the 5,000-meter course that will host the regional meet next month. He was followed across the finish line by Owens Burns (65th in 18:02.1), Dominic Gallo (83rd in 18:13.1), Anthony Danicki (164th in 19:15.4), Joel Morgan (168th in 19:23.2), Blaise Wieber (177th in 19:29.7) and Caden Matthews (203rd in 20:13.8).

Avon will next compete in the Todd Clark Cloverleaf Invitational Sept. 20 at Silver Creek Metro Park.
