Brown Men's Rugby Secures Dominant Win Over Fairfield Stags

In a spectacular display of resilience and skill, Brown Men's Rugby outclassed the Fairfield Stags with a decisive 60-17 victory on October 19, 2024, at Grauert Field, Fairfield University. This regular season Liberty Conference match showcased Brown’s ability to handle pressure and execute their game plan.
Despite a challenging start where Fairfield led by 3 at the 25-minute mark with Brown serving a yellow card—the first time Brown trailed this season—the team bounced back robustly. Key player Asa Rosenmeier’s crucial try on a strong carry from in close, shortly after Fairfield had snatched the lead, pivoted the momentum back to Brown. The team then went on to score an impressive 41 unanswered points in as many minutes. In all, the Bears amassed nine tries from seven players including Tito Edjua (3), Asa Rosenmeier, Garett Mann, Rowe Stodolnic, Kenyon Graham, St John Smith, and Marco Lapierre. Raphael Lansonneur successfully kicked six conversions and a penalty goal.
Graduate student and second rower David Scott commented on the turnaround, stating, 'We faced some adversity early on and gave up the lead, but when you're down on the scoreboard and you've got the team under your own posts you've got to find a way to pull together and respond.' This sentiment was echoed by Brown’s coach, David Laflamme, who praised Fairfield's supporters and noted the quality of the opposition. 'Fairfield is a quality program and their team really tested us through the first 25 minutes of the match,' said Laflamme. He also highlighted the need to fine-tune their strategies in training as the stakes continue to get higher.
Looking ahead, Brown Men's Rugby is set to face Dartmouth at 2pm on October 26, 2024, at the Berylson Family Fields during the University's Family Weekend events. Dartmouth comes to Brown occupying second place in the conference while touting a 5-1 record on the season, with the one loss coming in a close upset at the hands of AIC. The winner in this one will claim the 2024 Ivy League Championship, which Brown won in 2022 and 2023. With a current undefeated record of 6-0, and alone in first place in the Liberty Conference, Brown aims to continue their winning streak and achieve their top form as they build towards the postseason.
